Pittsburgh

Some pictures of Pittsburgh, that I had shot a year back, finally get a chance to get processed and presented here. It is a beautiful city for the photographer. Just a day here netted an awesome variety of photos. Some, I had published at my 500px and Smugmug sites, last year and has had a few thousand views, reaching popular status at 500px. What is remarkable is that they were captured with my old camera, the Nikon D5100 and with the standard lenses.

Self Portrait

Self Portrait. No better subject than yourself to practice portraiture photography, which requires a long learning curve. One of my attempts at self portrait on a recent picture.

Bibi ka Maqbara, poor man's Taj Mahal at Aurangabad, India. It was built by Azam Shah, a moghul prince, son of Aurangzeb in honor of his mother, Rabia Durrani, who was Aurangzeb's first wife.

My son's reflection in my grandson's eyes! A stunning photograph that I shot in Aurangabad. Grandson is actually my nephew's son, 3 months of age and a really cute baby. I had the distinction to babysit him for a few hours, when I opted to rest rather than go for dinner at the hotel after a gruelling day of sightseeing at Ajanta & Ellora.

The Photographer

A rare photo of the photographer doing what he does best-photographing. A droid photo taken by my son, while I remain engrossed in focusing the camera at a butterfly at the Hanging Gardens in Mumbai.

Rural India

Rural India as seen from the road while riding 15 hours from Ahmedabad to Aurangabad at end of Dec. 2012 in a Toyota Innova, a spacious Minivan made hardy for Indian roads. As I could not possibly use a flash, I captured the images with f/2.8, the lowest f-stop for widest aperture and a reasonable shutter time of 1/200 sec for motion freezing. I was not too satisfied with the photos given the constraints of the rough roads and restricted field of view of the car window, but nevertheless, did manage a fairly true depiction of the Indian country side. The images required a lot of post processing and one of the drawbacks was that I had the Jpeg setting switched on and in hindsight would have been better off shooting in RAW, which is far superior to jpeg due to its inherent greater tone resolutions. Here are some of my photos of Rural India.
